September: Suicide Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and was federally designated as such in 2008. This month is a time to raise awareness and discuss this highly stigmatized topic. In addition to shifting public perception, counselors and other mental health professionals use this month to spread hope and vital information to people affected by suicide. Suicidal feelings are a normal part of the human continuum of emotion, and should be given the same care and consideration as other affective states. For anyone plagued by these thoughts or feelings, know that you’re not alone. Suicidal feelings can be temporary, they can be treatable, and you can find peace of mind and relief.
